Dudley Castle is regarded as one of the most haunted castles in the World, and perhaps the most haunted in England. There are many spirits that have been reported here throughout hundreds of years.

Perhaps the most famous of all the ghosts is the Grey Lady who is allegedly the ghost of Dorothy Beaumont, a lady that lived in the castle, who gave birth in the castle and who’s daughter sadly did not survive childbirth, this tormented Dorothy and she died not long after, many said of a broken heart but most likely due to complications of childbirth. She is said to wander around the castle and its grounds because her requests on her deathbed were not granted. She asked to be buried alongside her new born daughter and due to the death of the drummer boy Dorothy’s wishes were not granted. It is said that Dorothy continues to be tormented to this day and therefore cannot rest as she is still searching for her daughter.

It is said that the most haunted location in the castle is thought to be the chapel under croft where 2 half coffins are housed, one of the coffins was allegedly that of on of the Lords of Dudley Castle called John Sommery, he was known to not be a very nice man and even had his own sister killed by having her thrown off the top of the castle tower after he accused her of witchcraft. Other reports include people having the feeling of their clothes being tugged at, and their bodies prodded by those who dared to lie inside his coffin.

Or maybe you’ll meet the spirit of Jacob and angry spirit who’s body was abused in death, upon his body being discovered after a fire in the castle grounds Jacob’s body was taken and put on display by the Lord of the castle at that time.
